This is a study of asphalt material with different underlayments and the amount of heat that is absorbed by the sun in comparison to the outdoor temperature. Eight different boxes were constructed, inside them laid 4” thick asphalt, 3” thick asphalt, 1” thick asphalt, asphalt with concrete underlayment, dirt underlayment, gravel underlayment, rubber underlayment, and wood underlayment. A heat sensor was placed on top of each material to record the radiant heat emitted over a 24 hour period. The sensors connected to an arduino board and the temperature was recorded every 15 minutes. The graphic shows the results of the data.
