designing with scent

Designing for a tangible sensorial interaction with the physical environment of a place requires intense and careful planning. These details, however, are usually in the visual, auditory and even the haptic realm of the senses. There is little thought taken to the forgotten sense of smell. This invisible impression has many possibilities to influence spaces and the activities which occur there as an additional design component. This book provides guidelines as a means to create new perceptions of a space that ordinarily would not exist establishing a new relationship between spaces and odors. The eight chapters go through all of the necessary requirements to take into consideration before selecting how to diffuse a scent, how strong it should be, how long it should last and how to select the fragrance.
